Survival Sketchers Draw Club is all animal drawing! We will draw and learn fun facts about a new animal every week, focusing on morphology, external features, textures and finishing details. Class runs 55 minutes. Draw Club sessions are grouped in four-week themes (see Monthly Themes below). Survival Sketchers is great for homeschool students, microschools, outdoor schools and programs, after school programs and independents. This class can accommodate brand new to skilled young illustrators.

If you are unable to attend the live session any given week (or if you prefer the flexibility of video), there will be a recorded version of every lesson available after the live session is complete. The videos will stay on our YouTube channel for two weeks.

CLASS STRUCTURE:
-4 minutes lesson focus, animal information and history and visual examples
-34 minutes step by step drawing (10 minutes on, 2 minute break repeated)
-2 minute evaluation
-15 minute deeper development

Suggested ages: 8-18 with anywhere from beginning to advanced drawing skills.

HOW DRAW CLUB WORKS: Three sessions (per 4-week-theme) are live, step-by-step tutorials. And because students want time to develop their own drawings, the fourth session per month is recorded and can be viewed at their convenience. The recorded session is called Studio Project week. The Studio Project video is posted on YouTube, and outlines an exercise designed to give students freedom to explore, on their own, the techniques they've learned during the previous three weeks. There is also a step-by-step option within the Studio Project video if you want or need extra help applying your skills.

You will be sent a Zoom invite (new each week) to join the live Draw Club session and a JPG file(s) to print for the student to follow along on the lesson. Please provide an email address you check regularly during check out so you are sure to receive both the invite and the JPG files.

For these sessions, you will need:
-A reliable internet connection.
•A monitor that can display the live Zoom session and the Studio Project video.
•To print the JPG template(s) you receive for the session.
•A pencil and an eraser (and a ruler occasionally).
•A pen (or preferably two) with indelible ink. One fine tip, and if possible, a second with a bit larger tip to fill in more area (which makes things quicker).
•Colored pencils, markers, or crayons...preferably with 2-3 of each color (ie. light green, medium green, dark green). Simple, low cost colors will work fine.

Classes are weekly during the school year:
Thursdays at  11:00-11:55AM or 5:00-5:55PM EST
Fridays at 5::00-5:55PM

Classes during the summer months run as once-monthly four-day camps.
Summer Dates: June 22-25, July 13-16, August 10-13
Summer Class Time: 10:00-10:55AM  EST (M-Th)
